This day personally appeared Before me a Justice of the Peace for the County above written Mr Christopher Dudley of the Town of Wilmington who being first duly sworn according to law testafies and says—That at an early period of the Revolution he knew Col Thomas Brown of the county of Bladen this affiant knows that Col Brown was in service at the Battle of Moores Creek and immediatly after that event he was still in service in and near Wilmington when the British landed at the mouth of the Cape Fear in that year—This affiant is well assured his service in the expedition to Moors Creek and at Wilmington in that year was not less than six months Col: Brown was after that period in service in South Carolina when Sir Peter Parker made the attack on Charleston the length of his service there this affiant is now unable to state but is sure it was not less than four or five months—From that period to the year Seventeen Hundred and Eighty Col Brown was with little intermission in service commading as he did a Regiment of minute men who were raised expressly for the protction of this section of country. In the year seventeen hundred & Eighty one Col Brown was wounded at Big Bridge and in the month of June of that year was made a Prisoner and confined at Wilmington until the enemy evacuated the place in the month of January seventeen Hundred & Eighty Two. In conclusion this affiant can testafy that no man performed more meritorious service than Col: Brown.
