As the attorney in fact of Mrs Lucy Brown widow of the late Col Thomas Brown of Bladen County North Carolina now applying for the benefit of the act of congress granting Pensions—I certify that in taking the testamony in this case I questioned the witnesses John Durrach & James Andres in relation to the discrepences in their statements in relation to the service rendered by them under Col Brown and that stated in their declarations when applying for Pensions—The following reasons among others were assigned for this discrepency—1st: In 1832 when they made applications for Pensions they were ignorant of the fact that any prcise period of service was required to entitle them to the benefit of the act. 2dly when asked why they omitted to state the service rendered under Col Brown during the year 1780, They stated that they did not mention that service because Col Brown was then dead and they did not know or think that it could be established by any one then alive—

I also certify that the above named individuals requested ^me^ most earnestly to lay their claims for an increase before the commission showing most conclusively to my mind that they had been and were up to that time ignorant of the provisions of the Law granting Pensions—
