This day personally appeared before me a Justice of the Peace for the County above written Doctor Armand John De Rosset an old and very respectable inhabitent of the Town of Wilmington N. Ca: now in the Seventy Second year of his age. Who being first duly sworn according to Law testafies and says, That he was born and raised in Wilmington and has resided in the place from the time of his birth to the present moment—with the exception of the period that the British had possession of it, he then resided in 12 miles of the place—This affiant has a most distinct recollection of Col Thomas Brown at that period; and resided in a mile of Big Bridge when the Battle was faught at that place. He was too young to take part in it but he well recollects of hearing that Col Brown was wounded in the ingagement—This affiant has also a distinct recollection of the fact that Col: Brown was after that event a prisoner of War and confined in the Town of Wilmington—This affiant cannot specify the commencement or precise termination of the services of Col Brown but from his recollection and undoubted sources of traditionary evidence he is as fully persuaded and as well convinced as he can be of any fact that Col Brown was in active service as a Col: for the best portion of the Revolution—This affiant after the close of the Revolution was well known to Col: Brown, and often noticed the fact that his arm was stiff from the wound received at Great Bridge—and this affiant has examined the statements of Mrs Wright & Mrs Lord both Ladies of the heighest respectability and he is fully convinced of the accuracy of those statements, from his own recollection, and the universal belief in this community of the services of Col: Brown. In a word this affiant is as well convinced that Col: Brown served the best portion of the Revolution as he can be if any fact that he did not see with his own eyes—and he has no doubt that Col Brown was married as stated by Mrs Brown. He has a distinct recollection of the event, but not the precise date—
