Thursday Night—December 22nd 1853—
Goodness me! Here it Is past II o’clock, and I again with my journal open to try and, catch time, but I fear I will fail tonight, for sleep nearly has possession of me now, but maybe I will write myself awake—hope I can manage to keep my eyes open at any rate—but on to the past—Sunday went to Church morning and evening, after church in the afternoon we all walked out to the plank road, for a walk—Monday morning, Mr Joe Wright, and Mr Gibbs called, then Mrs Anderson and Miss Lippet. Mr Jimmie Wright, then Mr Phyfer, and Mr Walker—Jane London and Carrie Holms, Sunnie Green, and Jane Green—Mr. Mears, Mr John Taylor, and Mr Holms—called—for the evening I went over, and spent an hour or so with Cousin Cate—late in the evening Mrs John Holms, and Mrs Wright called—Tuesday I spent chiefly in writing, answered Annies short letter by another short one, and only sent Mollie nine pages of my foolishness to read—received a letter from Cousin, Sister Ann and Jennie Jones—hope I will receive one from Mother tomorrow—Received an invitation to take tea, at Mrs John Holms—Carrie and Callie called in a few minutes to see me Tuesday evening, and Carrie said she would call for me as she went to Mrs Holmes, about ½ eight, Mr Jimmie Wright came for me, I felt sorry Carrie had sent him, for I know he did not wish, or at least care to go with me—I went at any rate, nearly all the young people about town were there—I spent a very pleasant party, did not see much of Mr Jimmie, as he acted, as if he wished to be with me as little as could be polite—I am sure it does not matter to me—spent the evening in playing, dancing, talking, and eating—Wednesday morning, I, oh, me I am so sleepy, and so cold, for I cant get my fire to burn, as Malvina has gone off to a party so I will have to finish for tonight—it is quite cloudy, and I fear we will have rain tomorrow, but I hope not—
