Mary Coit (née Lillington) Anderson was born in Wilmington, New Hanover County, North Carolina on October 8, 1823. The daughter of a prominent political family, she married Edwin Alexander Anderson, a Wilmington doctor in 1842. She had at least seven known children and was heavily involved in the social scene around Wilmington. She died in there on September 13, 1897.
