Biographical Description

Anne Johnson was likely a free person of color born in about 1697 who resided in Carteret Precinct. She married Peter Johnson sometime before 1724 and the couple travelled with several others to South Carolina. Once there, Anne elected to return home to North Carolina with Jacob Johnson, one of Peter's relatives. While on their way north, the Johnsons burglarized the home of Peter Perdreau and though they were charged, the case was eventually dismissed. In March 1728 Anne Johnson came before the court again, this time because she was accused of committing adultery by living with Jacob Johnson. She died sometime after March 1728.
