Biographical Description
Anna Maria Coit (née Summerell) was born in North Carolina on September 22, 1845. Coit was a teacher and operated a school in Salisbury (Rowan County) for several years. She died in Statesville (Iredell county) on January 18, 1919. Coit was a granddaughter of geologist, educator, and explorer Elisha Mitchell.
