Governor Locke Craig-
Dear Sir-

By way of introduction, let me say, that I am the oldest living descendant of Dr. Elisha Mitchell. I was nearly grown at the time of his death, and remember all about it.

From our home in Salisbury, he started on his last trip West. I was present at the meeting in the College Chapel, when the news of his death came.

I am quite sure that my Grandmother, Mrs. Mitchell and her children would be opposed, as I am, to any use being made of the grave, or monument in the way of an observatory or such.

I am willing to sign a deed giving to the State the 40 ft square, provided it shall be therein stated that the State shall never sell or lease that plot, and shall erect a suitable monument thereon.

I am sir, very respectfully yours,

Mrs. Anna M. Coit
née Summerell -
