Nathaniel Chevin arrived in colonial North Carolina by 1695. In 1696 he became the clerk of the Chowan Precinct Court, serving until 1703. Chevin later served as a justice on the North Carolina General Court from 1708 to 1712 and also served on the council from 1711 to 1717. During this time he sold a number of captured Bay River Indians as slaves to other colonists. He died in North Carolina in 1720.
