Silas Armistead Jones was born in Shelby County, Kentucky on January 31, 1853. Jones was for a time editor of the Tampa Daily Times and later relocated to Waynesville (Haywood County), North Carolina, where he engaged in mining and the building of railroads. He died in Waynesville on November 9, 1933.
