Col. S. A. Jones,
Waynesville, N.C.
Dear Sir:-
Your letter of May 26th and May 13th1 were duly received by this department. You have been heretofore advised as to what [illegible] with reference to the continuance of the convicts on your railroad.
This department has been informed that the entire board of directors of the State's Prison, together with the Superintendent, left Raleigh on yesterday for a thorough inspection of all the railroad camps at which State convicts are at work. I suppose that upon their return they will be prepared to make recommendations with reference to the convicts at each of these places.
Very truly yours,
