The affidavit of Captn: James Shipman a Pensioner of the U. States taken to prove the services of Col Thomas Brown—This affiant being duly sworn according to Law testafies and says that he entered the service along with Col Brown then Lieut: Col of Bladen County and marched to Fayettvill along with Col Brown and we were on the opposit side of the River when the Battle of Moores Creek was faught. From that time to the close of the revolution this affiant can testafy that Col Brown was nearly all the time in service—This affiant refers to the evidence of his own service now on file in the Pension Office, and he testafies that Col: Brown rendered all the service that this affiant did, and which he believes is much less than that rendered by Col: Brown

In conclusion this affiant is well convinced that Col Brown rendered as much & as meritorious service as any man in the state of North Carolina

State of North Carolina
Bladen County}
This day personally appeared before me a Justice of the Court of Please & Quarter Sessions for the County of Bladen. Captain James Shipman of the said County—and subscribed & swore to the foregoing affidavit in due form of Law. I also certify that Captn Shipman is one of the very oldest and most respectable citizens of Bladen County—and that his testimony is entitled to as full credit as that of any one.
