Biographical Description

Mary Freeman Burke (1752-1836) was originally a resident of Norfolk, Virginia before she moved to Hillsborough with her husband Thomas Burke. While Thomas represented the state at the Continental Congress in Philadelphia, Mary remained home, where she cared for their family. After Thomas' death in 1783, she remarried to Major George Doherty.
