Biographical Description

Josiah Holt was a white man to hired out the enslaved woman Ditto from William Brimage, likely sometime after 1777. When Brimage left the state and could not reenter the United States during and following the American Revolution he lost contact with Holt and never heard from Holt or Ditto again. Brimage later submitted an unsuccessful claim for compensation to the American Loyalist Claims Commission for the loss of Ditto's labor to Holt.
