Daniel Leggett was a tailor in Bertie County who became a senior warden for the Gourd Patch Conspiracy, recruiting many area farmers into the movement. When the plot was uncovered he made a deposition about his knowledge of the plot and was arrested before being indicted on charges of misprision of treason. He was still imprisoned without bond, likely in Edenton, in early December 1777, but the charges against him were likely dropped soon after.
