Charles Bondfield (d. 1781) was a a prominent lawyer of Edenton. Together with other residents, he wrote a petition to Arthur Dobbs requesting that the colony reduce its duties on exporting wine and other alcohol from North Carolina. In 1775 he served as a member of the Edenton Committee of Safety, a pro-patriot organization. By 1777, he was serving as a judge of the Edenton District Court of Oyer and Terminer, but he informed Governor Caswell in June 1777 had he did not wish to renew his appointment. Before his position was filled later that fall, Bondfield continued to manage the court proceedings, including receiving depositions from various people involved in the Gourd Patch Conspiracy and also overseeing the legal proceedings against John Lewellen and his associates.
