Robert Lee Campbell was born on March 28, 1881, in Athens, Georgia. Campbell served overseas during World War I as a lieutenant in the 368th Infantry. He was honorably discharged on October 24, 1919. During his time at North Carolina A & T, he served as an instructor in Machine Shop Practice and was in charge of the heating system. He died on January 2, 1972.
