John Jackson was born in about 1740. A resident of Anson County, he served in the Anson County Regiment of the North Carolina Militia during the American Revolution. Though his daughter later reported he was a colonel, he was more likely a lieutenant colonel, and also served at various times in the North Carolina Assembly, as a justice of the peace, and as a sheriff. He died in Anson County in about October 1794.
