Phillip Kinder was born in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. A resident of Montgomery County, Virginia, in 1781 he went with his sister-in-law Margaret Kinder to get his brother, Peter Kinder, a private in the Revolutionary War who had been wounded at the Battle of Guilford Courthouse and was recuperating in Salem, North Carolina. He likely died in present-day Wythe County, Virginia in 1788.
