Biographical Description

Nathanael Greene was born in Rhode Island on August 7, 1742. A general in the Continental Army, he was appointed the commander of the army in the Southern Theater in 1780. Greene commanded troops throughout North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia, perhaps most notably at the Battle of Guilford Courthouse in March 1781. He died in Georgia on June 19, 1786.
