John Thorowgood (d. 1787) was a resident of Princess Anne County, Virginia. He served as a major and later colonel in the Princess Anne Regiment of the Virginia Militia. In 1777 the forces under his command faced a group of loyalists within the vicinity of Francis Williamson's home in Currituck County. The following year, Thorowgood's troops played a role in apprehending Josiah Philips, who was later executed in Virginia.
