Elizabeth Brimage (née West) (1753-1816) was a resident of Bertie County who married judge William Brimage in 1773. In 1777 William Brimage became a member of the Gourd Patch Conspiracy and consequently tried to flee the state when the plot was dscovered, leaving his wife Elizabeth and their children behind. William eventually had to leave the state, though he returned briefly in 1783 to see his wife and children. Elizabeth continued to live in Bertie and own the family's property while William lived in exile in Bermuda and later in England until their deaths.
