Thomas McGuire was born in England and arrived in colonial North Carolina by 1760. There he  served as a judge on the Vice-Admiralty Court for North Carolina from 1760 up through 1766 or 1767. In October 1767 he became the colony's attorney general and in 1773 he won a nomination to the North Carolina Council. He died in England in 1802.
