Robert Monckton (1726-1782) was a British general who participated in several successful campaigns during the Seven Years War, including the capture of Fort Beausejoir. Monckton additionally served in a number of high-level administrative positions, including lieutenant governor of Nova Scotia (1755-1761), governor of New York (1761-1765), governor of Berwick-on-Tweed (1765-1768), and governor of Portsmouth (1778-1782). He is also remembered for his role in the deportation of Acadians after the capture of Fort Beausejoir.
