Biographical Description
John Jay McCampbell was born on June 12, 1868, in Abingdon, Virginia. A physician by training, McCampbell served as superintendent of the state hospital at Morganton from 1907 until 1938. He died in Davis (Iredell County), North Carolina on November 5, 1944.
