Dear Govr,
Enclosed you will find recpts for $622.14 freights on iron etc. paid by me, you will please send me the amt by express in currency as I find it difficult to get drafts cashed.
We have passed through the mud cut and would have reached Long Branch Saturday night but for the rain today. Merrimon’s letter is the subject of much ridicule, it would have done credit to Martin Van Buren.
I think it important to buy the iron needed beyond the ridge. Treas Worth told me I shd have the money. I have written to him if I could drawn for the amt due us about the 1st of Feby, but have recvd no reply. Wish you would write to me in regard to it.
No news of interest, with no more slides will reach the top by 1st of Jany.
Very Respy & Truly,
