On this 16th Day of November 1839
Personally appeared before Edward Rippey an acting Justice of the peace in the State & County above writen a serting Sarah Jinkins, a resident of the State of north Carolina in the County of Rutherford, aged Eightey five years, who being firs Duly Sworn according to Law, Doth on her oath mak the following Declaration: in order to abtain the benefit of the provision made by the act of Congres passed July 7th, 1839, entitled an act granting half pay and pensions to Certain widows; that She is the widow of John Jenkins, who was a Continential regular Soldier in the revolutionary War, and that he Entred the Service ^sum time^ a bout the year 1775 or 76 and that he resided in fairfield District South Carolina when he Entred the Service & She further Sayeth that her husban John Jenkins was a pensioner, and that he was Entred on the ^pension^ role or list at ninty six Dollars pear year at the north Carolina agancey. So She refers the Department to the Evidince upon which he was pensioned—
She further Declares that She was married to the Said John Jenkins in the nonth of November 1777 in the year Seventeen hundred and Seventy Seven and that her husban the aforesaid John Jenkins Died on the Sixth day of July Eighteen hundred and thirty; and that She was married to him, During the time of his Service, at the time a bove Stated

I William Wilkins Clerk of the Court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions for Rutherford County do Hereby Certify that Edward Rippy whois name appears to the foregoing Declaration and certificates is an acting Justice of the Peace for the County of Rutherford and that his Official Acts as Such are entitled to full faith and credit—

The Declaration of Sarah Jenkins whose name is signed on the opposite leaf I William Wilkins Clerk of the Court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions for the county of Rutherford do Certify That the Declaration of Sarah Jenkins which appears on the opposite leaf. And the Affidavit of Jesse Jenkins which is herewith attached with the certificate of E. Rippy Esquire & the Affidavit of Elizabeth Gladden of South Carolina, Fairfield District. With the Certificate of Thomas Lumpkin a Justice of the Quoram—With the Certificate and Seal of Office of J. Elliott Clerk of the Court of Common Pleas in and for the State and District aforesaid—Were exhibited before the Said Court of Rutherford at the July Session and the Court Declare it as their opinion that Said Sarah Jenkins is the widow of John Jenkins who was a Revolutionary Soldier and Pensioner as Set forth in her Declaration and that She was married at the time Set forth. And that Jesse Jenkins is a man of Good Character and that his affidavit is entitled to credit—
In Testimony whereof I have affixed the Seal of Said Court at office at the Court House at Rutherfordton and Subscribed my name During the July Term and on the 16th day of July A.D. 1840—
