August 14, 1913.
Mr. Guy V. Roberts,
Marshall, N.C.
My dear Sir:-
Your night letter of the 13th just received.1 Governor Craig is not in the office today. The convicts have been withdrawn from the Transcontinental Railroad by order of the Council of State, at a meeting held on Monday last. The disposition of these convicts was of course left in the hands of the prison authorities.
I notice from the Raleigh papers of yesterday morning that they had been sent to the Hickory Nut Gap Road work. This is all the information that I can give you concerning the matter. I will place your telegram before the Governor on his return.
Very truly yours,
