Be it known that before me James Gordon a Justice of the Peace in & for the County aforesaid Personally appeared George Hammon & was duly sworn according to Law doth on his oath make the following Statements that he is in his 89 year that he resided in the above County before the revolutionary war near to John Jackson who was at that time Capt. & I mustered under him & was will acquainted with him and family who was respectable he was the father of Huldah Hill widow of John Hill deceased who is the prent Petitioner for Pension for Service of her Husband rendered in the revolution at the Commencement of the war I believe John Jackson was appointed Col. of the Militia his son Jonathan was Capt, in the time of the war John Hill Came to this County & I became Acquainted with him & Soon after he Married Huldah Jackson I was not at the Marriage but have no doubt but he was Lawfully married to Huldah Jackson the month or year I cannot recollect at this time sometime after Marriage there was a Call for the Militia to go into service for three months under Capt. Jonathan Jackson Isaac Jackson & John Hill went as privates I furnished a Substitute they were marched from here & sometime after they were gone I heard of the fight at a place called Bettys Bridge & Sometime after the above men returned home one at a time all wounded Stating they received their wounds in the above fight John Hill sometime after the close of the war became a Preacher of the Gospel a Clergyman lived and died respected he resided near me the time of his death I do not recollect Huldah Hill widow of John Hill & the present Petitioner for Pension is the indentical ^widow^ of John Hill deceased & has never Married since the length of time & loss of Memory renders me unable to State months or years
