On this 14th. Day of March 1842 personally appeared before James Roberts an acting Justice of the peace in & for said County. Sarah Jenkins, a resident of North Carolina in the County of Cleavland, aged, 88 years, who being first Duly sworn according to law. Doth on her oath make the following Declaration in order to obtain the benefit of the provision made by the act of Congress passed July 4th 1836, granting pensions to Certain widows. That She is the widow of John Jenkins, who was a Soldier in the war of the Revolution, first he enlisted in the South Carolina line for the turm of Eighteen months and after the expiration of that turm, he was Draughted and went too Diferant tours in the Militia of South Carolina. She belives the first tour to have ben in the Crop Seasion of the year 1778, for her husban had Commenced a Crop with one of his neighbours, and when Cauld out in Service She had to work in the field in her husbans place, and that She belives the last tour to have ben sumtime in the year 1781 or 82 for She well recollicts that her oldist and only Son must have ben three or four years of age, from sircumstances well recollected. She further saith that her husban John Jenkins was a pensioner, and was Entred on the pension list of the North Carolina Agency; and that She being instructed, Did apply for a pension under the Act of 7th. July 1838, not knowing that there was any other Act or provision for widows, and Did receive a pension Certificuit under that Act, at the rate of sixty Dollars, per annum, which money has ben received, and that She refers the Department for proof of service and of the Date of Marriage to her papers on the files in the pension office. She further saith that She was married to the said John Jenkins sum time in November 1777, and that her husban the afore said John Jenkins Died on the Sixth Day of July 1830—and that She was married to him prior to his leaving the Service, and that the marriage took place at the time above stated—and She further Saith that her husban the aforesaid John Jenkins was a resident of farefield Destrict S.C. at the time of his Service
