My dear Sir:-

Replying to your letter of former date, which was withheld a few days in order that I might refer the matter of Mr. John P. Stedman's admission to the Board of Directors which met yesterday, beg to say that they instructed me to inform the relatives of Mr. Stedman that they would admit him provided an exchange can be arranged with the Hospital in Raleigh. Or in other words, that the Hospital at Raleigh remove a patient from this Hospital, in order to make room for Mr. Stedman, the expense of this transfer to be borne by Mr. Stedman's relatives. This course was made necessary owing to a lack of room here. We are unable to anything like accomodate all those applying, and there are now a number in the County Jails throughout the district. Fifty-four applications for admission during the present year have been unprovided for.
