Clerk Superior Court
Charlotte, N.C.

Hon. Locke Craig,
Governor of N.C.,

Dear Sir:-

This morning about 1 oclock the negro Joe McNeely, who shot L. L. Wilson, a policeman of this city, was lynched in the Good Samaritan Hospital, you will see the report in the mornings Charlotte Observer. In a quiet way an investigation should commence at once. The state should start the investigation. There was in this case utterly no reason for any violence, as this negro would have certainly been convicted if the policeman had died. I do not know, but its now probable that the policeman Wilson will get well. It was never intimated that there would be any mob violence or we should have prepared for it. I think that the Lynchers can all be found out if the matter is taken up in the right way and handled quietly.

Yours respectfully

Geo W Wilson
Solicitor 12 Dist.
