Be it remembered that on the twentieth day of September in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred & seventy seven, William Skiles, William Burkitt, Robert Knox, all of the County of Bertie Planters, and Jonathan Jacocks and John Johnston of the said County Esquires, personally appeared before the Honorable John Baptist Beasley Esquire Judge of the said Court, and severally acknowledged themselves indebted to his Excellency Richard Caswell Esquire, Governor &c, of North Carolina, each in the Sum of Twenty Pounds Current Money of the said State, to be levied of their several & respective Goods & Chattels Lands & Tenements to the use of the said State, upon this Condition that the said William Skiles, William Burkitt & Robert Knox shall appear at the next Court of Sessions of the Peace, Oyer & Terminer & General Gaol Delivery, ^to be held for the District of Edenton on the third Tuesday in March next^ to give evidence against Absolom Legget; in which case the above Recognizance shall be discharged, otherwise remain in full force & virtue.
