James Nelson enlisted in the North Carolina militia and was wounded in the knee during the Battle of Alamance on 16 May 1771. He later petitioned the North Carolina Colonial Assembly on and was awarded £15 per year on 28 November 1771. James Nelson died in Orange County around 1799.
