Elizabeth Hardy was born in about 1738 and married Henry Bonner in Chowan County, North Carolina in 1758. After her husband's death in 1766, she remarried, this time to planter William Roberts in 1767. The couple resided in Chowan County, where they had at least four children. In 1774 she and several members of her extended family signed a nonimportation agreement that later became known as the Edenton Tea Party Resolves. After surviving her husband's death in 1794 she died in Chowan County in about 1796.
