Biographical Description

Daniel Lindsay Russell was born near Wilmington (Brunswick County), North Carolina on August 7, 1845. Russell was a Confederate veteran, Republican politician, and attorney who served as a state legislator (1862-1866), a member of the U.S. House of Representatives (1879-1881), and governor of North Carolina (1897-1901). He died near Wilmington on May 14, 1908.
