Biographical Description

Thomas Andover was a free African American man who resided in colonial North Carolina by 1694. Known as a river pilot, Dorothy Steele, William Lee, John Spelman and several others paid Andover a stolen gun in exchange for his services piloting them up the Chowan River into Virginia.
