Smith, John (Capitol)

Biographical Description

John Smith was born near Darnaway, Scotland on February 20, 1811. Smith was a stonecutter who moved to North Carolina to work on the construction of the state capitol in Raleigh in the 1830s. He died at his home outside Fayetteville (Cumberland County) on September 17, 1859.
