Biographical Description

Captain Richard Smith was a planter who resided alongside the Pamlico River in Bath County, North Carolina. Smith resided in Bath by 1697, where he served as one of the county's first representatives to the House of Burgesses. Later in 1703 he and several other men signed a petition to the governor requesting that the colonial government intercede and prevent the nearby Tuscarora and Mattamuskeet nations from fighting one another. Any further information about this individual has not been located.
