Elijah Longstreet Daughtridge was born in Edgecombe County, North Carolina on January 17, 1863. Daughtridge was a farmer, businessman, and politician who served as a state legislator (1901 and 1903 sessions) and lieutenant governor of North Carolina from 1913 to 1917. In 1916, he served as a member of a committee charged with overseeing relief funds for Western North Carolina survivors of the 1916 flood. Daughtridge died in Rocky Mount on June 12, 1921.
