Biographical Description

James Herndon was born in Caroline County, Virginia in about 1737. He served as a captain in the Chatham County Regiment of the North Carolina Militia from 1778 to July 1781, when loyalist forces under David Fanning captured him at Pittsboro, North Carolina. After the war he moved to Kentucky, where he was a plantation owner. He died in Logan County, Kentucky on January 15, 1815.
