William Hargrove Searcy was born in North Carolina on May 27, 1754. A resident of Granville County, he served as a captain in the Guilford County Regiment of the North Carolina Militia from 1776 to 1779 and a captain in the Randolph County Regiment of the same from 1779 to 1781. He died in North Carolina on October 20, 1841.
