Peter Hagner was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on October 1, 1772. A longtime civil servant, he served as the third auditor of the United States Treasury from 1817 to 1849. In this role, Hagner was responsible for making sure public funds were spent properly. He died in Washington, DC on July 16, 1850.
