William Laval born in Goose Creek Parish, South Carolina on May 27, 1788. A major in the War of 1812, he was the Comptroller General of South Carolina from 1834-1838 and again from 1842-1846. He also held office as the state's secretary of state and treasurer at various times. He died in Greenville, South Carolina on September 5, 1865.
