Biographical Description

Andrew Lewis was born in Ireland on October 9, 1720. A surveyor, he served as a captain in the French and Indian War under George Washington and led several attacks against American Indians on Virginia's western frontier. During the American Revolution, Lewis served as a brigadier general and operated throughout Virginia. After the war he served on the state's executive council and died in Bedford County, Virginia on September 26, 1781.
