William George Thomas was born in Franklin County, North Carolina on March 23, 1818. A physician, he married Mary Sumner Clark in 1843 and the couple resided in Tarboro, Edgecombe County, North Carolina and later in Wilmington, New Hanover County, where they had at least four children. He died in Wilmington, New Hanover, North Carolina on February 18, 1890.
