John Probert Cobb was born in Wayne County, North Carolina on November 23, 1834. He attended the University of North Carolina, graduating in 1854 before serving as a colonel for the Confederacy during the Civil War. He later held an office in the Florida State Comptroller's office and died in Tallahassee, Leon County, Florida on March 13, 1923.
