Biographical Description

The Raleigh Sentinel was a Democratic newspaper that was established in 1865, and run by William E. Pell, and Josiah Turner Jr., from 1868 to 1872. In 1872 Josiah Turner Jr. changed its name to the Sentinel. A Democratic newspaper, Turner used the Sentinel  to target government officials like Governor William Woods Holden and other politicians who supported Reconstruction.
