Ulysses S. Grant was born in Point Pleasant, Ohio on April 27, 1822. Grant had an accomplished military career, serving in the Mexican-American War, and the American Civil War, where he rose to the rank of three-star General. Grant was the the 18th President of the United States, and during his term he was tasked with helping southern states rebuild and and combat the Ku Klux Klan. As President, Grant worked with Governor William Woods Holden in combating White supremacy, however, when Governor Holden declared military rule, Grant lessened his support. Grant died in Wilton, New York on July 23, 1885.
