Biographical Description

William Haywood (1730-1779) was a planter and politician from Edgecombe County. Starting as a justice of the peace, he later represented Edgecombe in the North Carolina Colonial Assembly from 1760-1775 and at three sittings of the provincial congress. He served on the North Carolina Council of State from 1777 to 1778, when he resigned.
